Before you begin
- Verify that Android devices that you want to activate have the TouchDown app (www.nitrodesk.com) or the Enterprise Device Management API. Either is required to manage email and organizer data.
- When you follow the instructions below, you will create a user account for the device user. You can either create the user account by typing the user's information (this is a "local user"), or you can add the user account from your company directory, for example, from Microsoft Active Directory (this is a "directory user"). If you want to add users from the company directory, you must first follow the instructions in Accessing your company directory.
Create an Exchange ActiveSync profile
- Use an Exchange ActiveSync profile that has already been set up.
- Follow the steps below to create a new profile.

- On the menu bar, click Policies and Profiles.
- Click the + icon beside Exchange ActiveSync.
- Type a name and description for the profile.
- In the Domain name field, type the domain name of the mail server.
- In the Email address field, type %UserEmailAddress%.
- In the Host name or IP address field, type the host name or IP address of the Exchange ActiveSync server.
- If the mail server requires SSL authentication, select Use SSL.
- In the Username field, type %UserName%. If your organization uses IBM Notes Traveler, type %UserDisplayName% instead.
- Click the tab for each device type and configure the appropriate values.
- Click Add.

Create a user account
- If the device user already has a user account, follow the instructions in Send an activation email message.
- If the device user doesn’t have a user account, follow these steps to create one and send an activation password to the user.

Assign the Exchange ActiveSync profile to the user

- On the menu bar, click Users & Devices.
- Search for and select the user.
- On the User summary tab, in the IT policies and profiles section, click the + icon.
- Click Exchange ActiveSync.
- In the drop-down list, click the name of the profile.
- Click Assign.

- Download and install the BES10 Client from Google Play.
- Open the BES10 Client.
- Read and accept the agreement.
- Type your work email address and tap Go.
- If required, type the server address and tap Next.
- Confirm the certificate details. Tap Accept.
- Type your username and activation password. Tap Activate My Device.
- Tap Activate.
- Open the BES10 Client and tap About. In the Activated Device section, you should see your device information.
- As long as your activation password is valid, you can repeat these steps to activate additional devices (if allowed by the administrator).
