Back up data from a subscriber's lost smartphone

Note: Depending on the permissions that your administrator has assigned to you, some features or options might not be available.

You can use BlackBerry Protect to back up contacts, calendars, memos, tasks, text messages, and other data from a subscriber's BlackBerry smartphone. The subscriber can restore this data to any BlackBerry smartphone using the BlackBerry Protect application. Some types of data, including pictures, email messages, third-party applications, and media files, cannot be backed up using BlackBerry Protect.

  1. Search for the subscriber's account.
  2. In the Subscriber Search Results area, click the subscriber.
  3. In the Subscriber Details area, click the BlackBerry Protect tab.
  4. Click Back Up Device.
  5. Click Back Up.

If the smartphone is turned off or not connected to the wireless network, BlackBerry Protect backs up the subscriber's data the next time the smartphone is accessible.

Depending on the subscriber's BlackBerry Protect settings, you might not be able to back up the subscriber's data if the smartphone is roaming or if the smartphone is not connected to a Wi-Fi network. Additional charges may apply if data is backed up while the smartphone is roaming.
