Navigating the BlackBerry Administration Service console

The BlackBerry Administration Service is a web application you can use to do the following:
  • manage user accounts
  • assign user groups, administrative roles, and software configurations
  • apply IT policies to user accounts
  • manage servers and component instances in a BlackBerry Domain

You can open the BlackBerry Administration Service in a browser on any computer that can access the computer that hosts the BlackBerry Administration Service. You can share administrative duties with other administrators who can access the BlackBerry Administration Service simultaneously.

To navigate the BlackBerry Administration Service, consider the following best practices:

Feature Description

Default values

Default values are displayed in all fields that you can edit in the BlackBerry Administration Service.

Editing fields

Fields that have a white background are optional.

Fields that have a yellow background are required.

Exclamation icon

An exclamation icon is located beside various fields in the BlackBerry Administration Service that, if changed, require you to restart the associated BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance.

Navigating to previous page

Using the browser's Back button is not recommended because data might be lost.

You can navigate to the home page by clicking the globe icon or the Home link in the upper right hand corner of the screen.

You can navigate back to the search page by clicking Back to search.

You can navigate back to the search results by clicking Back to previous search results.

Right-click option when managing user accounts

When managing user accounts, you can right-click on a user name to access a quick menu of tasks you can perform on the user account.

Save all

You can save changes you make to any available field by clicking Save all. When you click Save all you save information that has been changed for each page associated with the BlackBerry Enterprise Server instance or component.

Searching for user accounts

If you have less than 100 user acounts in your messaging system, you are not required to perform a search before you can manage the user accounts. The BlackBerry Administration Service displays the user accounts on a single page.

Drag-and-drop the columns in the user search results to customize the display.

Reverse the user search results by clicking the column header.

You can export the data from the user search results into CSV files.

Server view and Component view

The Server view displays a list of all instances associated with each BlackBerry Enterprise Server component. You can edit each server instance and its component information.

The Component view allows you to choose the server instance that you want to change based on the associated component. The online help documents only the Component view.

Summary page for IT policy

When you click on an IT policy other than the Default IT policy, an IT policy summary page displays those settings that are different from the Default IT policy.

View user information when adding and managing applications

When you manage applications, you can view the user accounts that you assigned an application to and the individual properties for each user account. The BlackBerry Administration Service displays the list of user accounts as hyperlinks so that you can view the properties for each user account.
